Mitchell J. Brunfelt

Mitchell J. Brunfelt, Partner
• Strong track record of successful resolution of complex, often
challenging personal injury and wrongful death cases
• Extensive experience in employment law and litigation, protecting and
defending employee rights, including employment discrimination, sexual
harassment, whistleblower and wrongful termination cases
• Demonstrated expertise in labor law and labor-management relations
In addition to his work in personal injury and wrongful death cases,
Mitch Brunfelt is the only Iron Range attorney with demonstrated
experience and success in the areas of employment law, employment
litigation, labor law and labor relations. He previously worked as general legal counsel for AFSCME Council 65, AFL-CIO, representing over 9,000 public sector
employees and health care workers across Greater Minnesota on labor and
employment matters.
As such, he is particularly attuned to the needs and concerns of the
local community. “Iron Rangers expect people to take responsibility and
fix things when they’re broken. It’s not about winning the lottery,”
said Brunfelt. “It’s about making things right when they’ve gone
wrong.”
At the same time, he’s equally concerned about setting up programs
and policies to prevent claims and liabilities by providing advice and
guidance to corporations and public entities, such as school districts,
municipalities and townships, joint power entities and non-profit
organizations. “The key is to anticipate issues before they become
problems, and to advise and guide clients to minimize the risk of future
claims.”
Mr. Brunfelt is a member of the:
• Labor and Employment Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar
Association
• Iron Range Bar Association

• Minnesota School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys
• Virginia Rotary Club
Mr. Brunfelt serves as City Attorney for the City of Eveleth and the
